Lifeguard-Seasonal

GORDON COUNTY, GEORGIA-Gordon County is currently accepting applications for seasonal positions as lifeguards at Salacoa Creek Park. Qualified applicants should have a current lifeguard certification, (Waterfront Life Guarding), from the American Red Cross, and current a CPR certification. A certification class will be held, but will be at the applicant’s own expense.  Background check and drug screening required. Chief Appraiser

Gordon County, Georgia-Gordon County Board of Assessors is seeking candidates for the position of Chief Appraiser. Gordon County, located in Northwest Georgia has a population of 52,800 and is a class V. This position will report to a three (3) person Board of Assessors and will supervisor a staff of eight (8+). Applicants should have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field; must be certified as an Appraiser III or IV by the Georgia Department of Revenue; and have at least five years of progressively increasing experience in property appraisal and personnel supervision. Background check and drug screen required. Beginning salary D.O.Q within Salary Range: 59,070  -  85,650. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR CHIEF APPRAISER-GORDON COUNTY, GEORGIA

 

The Chief administrative officer of the Tax Appraiser Department fulfills the statutory duties of the Chief Appraiser and Chief Tax Receiver. Operates within the guidelines of the Official code of Georgia Annotated, property tax and appraisal rules and regulations, County and departmental policies and procedures, and standard operating procedures. Reports to the Board of Assessor and works with staff, managers, attorney, real estate personnel, surveyors, developers, elected officials and the public to ensure taxes are properly and equitably assessed.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the overall planning, operation, and administration of the real and personal property returns process, the exemption requests filing and approval process, and the production of the annual property tax digest.
  • Manages and directs by planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the staff and other business resources. Supervises a staff of 8+ employees.
  • Coordinates with State, county, municipal officials and public on property assessments and tax digest preparation to be consistent with the established regulations and restrictions.
  • Budgets and accounts for all revenue and expenditures for the department.
  • Ensures taxes are properly and equitably assessed by overseeing the mapping of parcels, performing trend analysis of changes in building and land costs, supervising the inspection and appraisal of new construction, and responding to property valuation and related tax concerns.

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field; five (5) years of progressively increasing experience in assessing and appraising property or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Drivers’ License. Must possess and maintain a valid Appraiser’s III or IV Certification from the Georgia State Department of Revenue.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of computer programming, statistics, mathematics, automated systems, and all methods of real and personal property valuation and inspection. Familiarity with the principles and practices of planning, research, development and supervision. Mastery of interpreting Ad Valorem taxation laws, rules and regulations of the State of Georgia, local land use and values, and interpretation of deeds, legal descriptions, mapping, data processing, and geographic information systems. Proficiency in problem solving, interpreting statutory requirements, regulations and procedures, and maintaining effective inter-personal and group relations. Good communication skills, both oral and written. Should have experience and/or ability to testify in Superior Court on tax appeals.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting at desk with intermittent walking, standing stooping, bending, crouching, and frequently lifting light and heavy objects. Work is performed in an office and outdoors with potential exposure to inclement weather, dust, noise, and dirt. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
